Answer: A Superstrat

The vibrato units generically referred to as a Floyd Rose, appear almost exclusively on solid body electrics. These instruments are robust enough to withstand the forces exerted by these fittings. They are aimed primarily at rock and metal players as this style of playing demands fairly heavy duty equipment! The Floyd Rose style vibrato unit is used in conjunction with a 'locking nut' at the headstock end of the neck which helps to maintain the correct string tuning. The actual vibrato unit itself locks in place when the handle is in the vertical position and only enables 'whammy bar' techniques to be performed once the player has gripped the handle. It may well be possible to fit a Floyd Rose to many styles of guitar but, to be honest, who would be daft enough to fit, or attempt to fit, a Floyd Rose to an ES335? Kerry King, maybe?
